Ely Community Education

September Session Beginning Pickleball 2022

NEW SESSION!

September Session will be three days in the week of September 19.

Community Education is offering a new beginning session! So how about trying a new sport: pickleball? Seriously, it is the goofy name of a fast-growing game that’s a combination of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton. Come learn Pickleball, the fastest growing sport in the world.  Pickleball is easy to learn (but difficult to master).  It’s a lifetime sport and a great way to get some exercise.  Beginner lessons start ( to be arranged).  Drop by and watch the club play that you will be preparing for.  The courts are just north of the football field and east of the high school.  You will be able to register for the afternoon section A or the evening section B. If you are available for both times sections register for C.

Pickleball is played on a court that’s about 40 percent of the size of a regulation tennis court. Players use wooden or composite rackets that are slightly larger than ping-pong paddles to hit a plastic ball back and forth over a net. The net is a few inches lower than a standard tennis net.

The game was invented in the 1960s by several parents vacationing in Bainbridge Island, Washington. The parents wanted their kids to do something outdoors instead of lying around inside all day. Ely
