Independent School District No. 696

Welcome to Independent School District 696, comprised of Ely Memorial High School and Washington Elementary and located at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Our 550 students truly get the best of all educational worlds: dedicated teachers who know every student, a variety of state-caliber sports and extracurricular activities in which to excel, and a safe environment and supportive community in which to learn.

Though our beautiful buildings are historic, students have access to the latest technologies; they learn using Smartboards in numerous classes, while three computer labs are open for their research assignments or creative impulses. We are proud of our schools...and our students!
